Panic Disorder – Understanding It Is The Key

Panic attacks are much more common than most people think. Millions and millions all over the world suffer from them. They can be a devastating issue in both personal and professional areas. They can cause a multitude of symptoms, physical and psychological, that can produce paralyzing effects.

It is therefore crucial to do everything in one’s power to control this debilitating condition. The good news is that it can be done. There is, unfortunately, no magic pill, but it can be done. The very first step to controlling and eventually eliminating panic attacks is to understand them, to know what they really are.

So, what are they? Simply put, they are a biological, inborn alarm system. Everyone has it, everyone is born with it. This system is very deeply ingrained in our beings, simply because it uses a whole range of basic psychological and physical mechanisms.

If you ever wondered, why there are no pharmaceutical solutions, this is the main reason. In order for any pill to work it must be specific, addressing a certain area or mechanism. As you can see now, this is not possible with panic attacks, because they use too many basic systems.

How about just shutting this alarm off? Well, that is not such a good idea, because it would essentially mean shutting off you. Definitely not a long term solution. Anti-anxiety drugs do this, they more or less turn you into a zombie. I’m sure you wouldn’t like to live like that.

But the main problem here is not the so called alarm system, but the fact that it goes off when it shouldn’t. This is very important for you to understand. In a matter of speaking we could say that it’s oversensitive. So instead of shutting it down, you should learn how to reprogram it.

Is that possible? It’s definitely possible, however, it is not easy. It won’t happen overnight and it will require some effort. But many have successfully done it and can now enjoy life without panic. You should try it too.
