Tips to Overcoming a Panic Attack
An anxiety attack is something that many people do not truly understand, until they experience one for themselves. A few lucky people will go their whole lives without ever experiencing an attack. Others will find that they will experience at least one during their lifetime. However, for those that have these attacks on a regular basis, treatment is needed. Luckily, there is anxiety relief out there.
But just what is an anxiety attack and how do you know that you are having one? During an attack, there could be intense pounding of the heart, shortness of breath, a lot of perspiration, and possibly even some stomach pain and chest discomfort. Some people have reported feelings of dizziness and tingle sensations that are felt all over the body.
It is important to remember though that not every symptom will be experienced each and every time. Every attack can be different. These attacks will generally come on suddenly, without warning, and will reach a peak within ten minutes. Even though they do not appear from a medical sense to last very long, someone experiencing the attacks will feel as though they last forever. The entire ordeal can be extremely frightening and frustrating.
Someone who experiences a lot of panic attacks will need to determine if there are any triggers that seem to bring on the panic attacks. For example, if you find that traffic jams tend to lead you down a road of panic attacks, begin to think positive thoughts when you notice that there is a lot of traffic piling up. Being proactive and thinking ahead will help you in overcoming anxiety.
It is also important to remember that your heart will not stop because of an attack, you will not stop breathing, and you will not lose all mental control and then go crazy. The reason it is important to remember this is that many people feel as though those things can happen when they are in a middle of an anxiety attack.
Controlling anxiety is about how to control the situation once an attack does occur. While preventative measures are important an attack can still occur, it’s important to know what to do if they do.
You can also try a breathing technique or two to see if that helps with the situation. What works well for one person may not do as well for another so you want to make sure that you try a few different techniques so that you can finally have the attacks under control.
Once you understand what an anxiety attack is, the signs and symptoms and the various treatments out there, you will be able to win the battle of overcoming anxiety. It may take a little bit of time but the reward in the end is well worth it. Before you know it, you will have your anxiety attacks under complete control.
