Dealing With Depression: Solve It Before It Consumes You
Almost a third of all people suffer from some form of depression, ranging from slight to severe. Though the word seems to bring about a bed feeling by most as if it refers to dementia or mental issues, being depressed doesn’t mean that you are having a mental issue. All it means is that you are suffering from some sort of emotional strain that you are unable to cope with at the time.
Dealing with depression isn’t always a complicated matter; every person is different and each person reacts in their own way. When it comes to losing a loved one, the individual’s ability to cope and how the death of their loved one occurred can play a part in how depressed one can get. For example, if a person loses a parent that has been suffering from terminal illness for a long time, the consequent sadness may me intermingled with a bit of relief. Unlike the loss of a loved one, where we personally understand where the emotional upset came from, a woman with post-partum depression has no idea why she feels the way she does.
At times, the situation behinds why we are so sad seems small- so tiny that we feel stupid asking for help. Other times, the situation seems so large that resolution seems hopeless. Even still, there are situations where we have no clue why we feel the way we do, and this makes dealing with depression that much more complicated. Remember, each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses- and while we lose hope, someone else may know what it takes to get through.
The good news is that no matter why a person feels the way they do, there’s no need to continue suffering. Because the forces causing a person to be depressed can vary from one end of the spectrum to the other, there isn’t a one size fits all course of treatment.
