Even children get anxiety

People never seem to realize that children can suffer from anxiety as much as adults. In fact the anxiety that displays when children get to be teenagers will have started to develop usually in their early childhood.

Things that as adults we laugh about can cause children some real anxiety. The first day at a new school or their first date can both be things that cause normal worry to turn into an anxiety attack.

It can be difficult telling what behaviors are just normally “acting out” and which ones are caused by the children being in a state of anxiety due to their daily lives. Events which seem unimportant initially can prey on your childs mind and cause him to become anxious.

If your child is showing signs of sweating, unexplained pain or discomfort, repetitive behaviors or insomnia they may be suffering from anxiety.

The years when your child is growing can be the happiest of your life. We all know that a child will develop new skills but they will also develop new fears and worries along with the more usual reading and writing.

Your child will normally start to be less clingy between the ages of 6 and 8, they will start to really like going to school and become less afraid of imagined things. This is also the age when you should be looking out for any of the symptoms of anxiety disorders.

If you have a child with an anxiety disorder, or one whom you think may have one, then you need to act now. Your child has a better hope of living a happy and fruitful live with anxiety if they get professional help early on.

Medication and behavioral therapy are used to treat anxiety in children as it is in adults. When you speak to your Dr make sure you know exactly what treatment they are suggesting and also any possible side effects.
