On Overcoming Stress

The world would be much easier and comfortable to live in if we humans could make use of the art of mathematics to think of a calculation which could determine the amount of stress a person could handle before he or she breaks down from pressure. But, this would be hard to achieve since each and every person living in this world have different level of tolerance towards the pressure they feel in their lives and different situations can cause stress to them. For example, a sudden change in the normal environment which might cause you to feel scared and weak might be a stimulating and exciting experience for others. Another fine example would be a person that likes an environment that provides different challenges and opportunities would feel dreadful in a working environment which is dull and doing the same work everyday. This works in the opposite way also, when a person who prefers a constant and consistent job and environment would feel pressured with a job that requires constant change in environment and work attitude.

Studies have shown that suffering from stress for a long period of time can lead to actual physical illnesses. Once you feel ill all the time and also feel pressure building up in your head, then it is time to think of some proper ways to deal with the problem. But it is important to remember that stress management is a learning process, it is impossible to learn and master all of it within a day or two. Only by constantly and endlessly pursuing the knowledge will you be able to control the stress inside of you.

When learning to use stress management techniques, the first step is to find out what are the main reasons that causes you to feel stressed. Do you feel tired and lonely every time you are trying to cook? Is the work at the office keep piling up and you are scared of doing the coming presentation to your company’s biggest client? Do you feel frustrated when you encounter the massive traffic jam when you go to work everyday? These are daily happenings that cannot be avoided, but you can work your way around them. Take for example, if preparing dinner or cooking has become a burdening chore which you don’t enjoy because you do it everyday, then plan with your family to go out and eat at least once a week to break out of the routine. If your job at the office is really killing your brain cells, then it is time to use a different way to organize your work so you don’t try and finish everything at one time. If the morning traffic rush makes you want to pull your hair out, then try waking up earlier than usual and leave for work about fifteen minutes earlier. By identifying what causes your shoulder’s burden, you can think of ways to cut down the negative impact.

You should then try if at all possible to lessen your emotional reactions to stressors. You may notice that stressors cause you to think negatively, focusing on the worst aspects of a situation. Instead, consider a stressor an opportunity for improving your life. Try to determine whether you are overreacting to certain situations. It is entirely possible that every stressor you encounter is not urgent-that you can take your time to assess the situation and therefore reduce your stress level. Also, think of yourself as being in control of your emotions. While you may not be able to do anything about a certain situation, you can control your reactions to it.

Besides your emotional reaction, how you react physically to the pressure is also important. When you encounter stressful situations, try to take deep slow breaths so that you can become calmer. If your physical reaction is dangerous and might cause harm to others, then it is time to seek professional help and take some medication to control it. But, there is always a simpler way to go through with it which is to leave it all behind for a while and take a break. The alone time can provide you with enough time to reflect on the situation and how you can improve it.

Besides the factors mentioned above in the article, it is important also to keep your body healthy and strong in order to fight stress. You can achieve this by having exercise sessions at least three times a week and also eat and drink healthy and nutritious food and beverages that will help maintain healthy body. Avoid consuming too many bad stimulants such as sweet sugar and also caffeine, and it is also crucial you have enough hours of sleep each night. By following these instructions you would be able to handle yourself when the situation is causing too much pressure in your mind.

Stress and mind pressure would forever exist in our minds and we cannot avoid it no matter what we do. Not one human being in this world lives their life in pure harmony and no trouble exists. With the proper handling styles, you can turn the pressure situations into learning opportunities for yourself. The more successful you are with dealing with stress, the more likely you live a happy and fulfilled life. Do not rush through the stress management learning process or you might suffer emotional and physical breakdown as a counter effect.
