Stress is something that we all must deal with and some of us deal with it better than others. Essentially what happens during psychotherapy is that the patient will channel positive thoughts and modify his behaviour. These behaviour modifications have to be continual throughout his lifetime. These modifications are mostly routines and exercises that allow one to better manage his stressful situations.

Medicines in the benzodiazepine class are short term fixes that help to calm a patient down. They induce tranquilizing effects on the patients. They are often used in situations when the patients feel an incoming attack.

These medicines are commonly known as Xanax, Valium and Ativan and these are the few popular anxiety relief medication. The effects that they induce are instantaneous and within an hour of consumption, the patient will feel a calming effect. It should be noted that the medications are only administered when one encounters a highly stressful situation and should not be used to deal with the normal tensions of daily routines.

Relaxation Techniques

Focusing the mind away from thoughts that cause stress has come to be a very effective method of anxiety relief. Get comfortable and centre your thoughts on some type of calming image or situation, visualize yourself in a peaceful setting, remain focused and shun all unpleasant thoughts for about five minutes. Many people find this exercise very refreshing and resort to it in times of impending stress.
