Panic Attacks – Are There Any Medical Solutions?

In today’s society, panic attacks are becoming more and more common. But in this article, we won’t talk about that. We want to know, if there are any medical solutions to this problem. So, are there or will there be any long-term medical treatments for panic attacks? This is not a simple question.

Why is it not simple? Because the problem is not simple. Panic attacks are far from simple and there is very little chance that there will ever be pharmaceutical solution to this problem. There is none today and it doesn’t look any better in the near future.

In order to understand why this is so, we must understand what panic actually is and why does it occur. Well, it’s a part of a very complex inborn response – the fight or flight response. This is a complicated systemic reaction to dangerous situations that involves a whole array of psychological and physiological systems.

It’s sort of an alarm system that we all come equipped with. The problem with people who suffer from panic attacks is that their alarm is too sensitive.

But as we have said, this is a very complicated phenomenon. It involves many different systems and there is no one single cause. That is the reason why there is no magic pill.

There are, of course, pills that are used today to treat panic attacks. They are anti-anxiety drugs, but unfortunately they don’t focus on the real causes of the problem. Not really a long-term solution.

This is because you can’t just shut down this inborn alarm system. It is so anchored in your being that you have to shut down yourself in order to achieve that. And that’s exactly what anti-anxiety medications do. They shut you down along with your alarm. I don’t think that’s really a solution.

Fine, there is no magic pill, but is there a solution? Yes, there is. It’s not pharmaceutical, but it’s very effective. However, it does take time and effort. It’s not about shutting off the oversensitive alarm, it’s about reprogramming it. It can be successfully done, many people have done it.
